View to NW along the central axis [17],
In the centre of the picture (on the right side of the street) is a
banana plantation. Behind that there is the old centre of
Müang Sing where the palace stood.
The central streets are the broadest streets of the town. Not far from the main road to China there are wooden houses, thatched or with corrugated iron roofs.
There is still much free space.
Intersection in the western area of Müang Sing [18].
Here further away from the main road to China the method of construction
is more primitive. The houses are partly made out of clay.
The road from Luang Nam Tha via Müang Sing to China [19] touches the old town on its SE-edge and is nowadays the real centre. The houses in this area are made out of concrete and bricks.
Although the main trade routes from Thailand via Laos to China will not touch Müang Sing, it is to be seen, that there is an economic boom. In 1993 there was only one hotel, 1996 this had increased to four and there are still more under construction. Tourism is growing. - Electricity is available during a few hours at night.
